About: Thornton Golf Club

Thornton Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Fife. The club was first formed in 1921.

Thornton Golf Club's course was established in the summer of 1921 by a group of local railwaymen. The original course layout was agreed upon by a committee and marked its grand opening with a mixed fourball competition on August 6, 1921.

In 1925, Thornton Golf Club moved to a new location at the bottom of Station Road in Thornton, Fife, Scotland, where an opening ceremony took place in May and a hotelier struck the initial tee shot. The club members assumed greenkeeping responsibilities, relying on a horse-drawn mower for course maintenance until purchasing a motor mower in 1931.

The course was purchased outright by the club in October 1935, and by 1939, a new clubhouse, funded partially by the Railway Company, was inaugurated. Significant enhancements occurred when a full-time greenkeeper was employed in 1970, and by the club's 50th year at the Station Road site, the course was expanded to 18 holes.

In 1996, the older clubhouse was replaced with a new, prestigious structure. The Thornton Gold Club golf course is situated in KY1 4DW, Station Road, Thornton, Fife, Scotland.
