Verulam Golf Club

Verulam Golf Club was formed in 1905 with a nine-hole course, expanding to an 18-hole course following a 21-year lease of additional land in 1909. The design by esteemed golf course architect James Braid was officially opened on 27th April 1912 with a match featuring James Braid and Open Champion Harry Vardon.

The course is recognized for its association with Samuel Ryder, who donated the trophy for the first official Ryder Cup match in 1927. Verulam Golf Course is characterized by its parkland setting, and the layout places a premium on accuracy and shot control from the teeing ground.

Verulam Golf Course presents challenges such as well-protected greens with bunkers, slopes, and mounds, alongside hazards including out-of-bounds areas, tree plantations, water, and the River Ver. The course's subtleties are evident in its undulating greens and the significance of strategic play over sheer distance.

With a history of more than a century, the course has matured into a 6429-yard par-72 layout known for its well-drained fairways and fast greens, demanding a strong short game for successful scoring. Practice facilities at Verulam include a driving range, a practice bunker, chipping areas, and putting greens, all designed to complement the conditions found on the course itself.

Summer green fee rates are in effect from April 1st, 2025 to October 26th, 2025. Weekday visitor rates range from £55.00 to £65.00. Weekend visitor rates after 1:30 PM and bank holidays are £70.00.
