Wallasey Golf Club

Wallasey Golf Club was founded in 1891 by members from nearby Hoylake, with the course originally laid out by Tom Morris Sr., a four-time Open Champion. Course improvements have been made by various notable figures in golf, including Alex 'Sandy' Herd in 1901, Harold Hilton in 1913, and further advice from James Braid.

The course has hosted multiple prestigious tournaments, including four occasions when it served as a qualification venue for The Open Championship. Notably, in 1930, Bobby Jones qualified for The Open Championship at Wallasey, which was part of his Grand Slam triumph.

Following World War II, which required alterations to the layout due to defense installations leading to a reduction in acreage, the full 18-hole links course was not available until 1952, with Hawtree and J.H. Taylor designing the new layout. The course once again hosted Open qualifiers in 1956, welcoming players such as Peter Thompson, Henry Cotton, and Gary Player.

Today, the course stretches over 6,649 yards, featuring traditional links-style play with undulating fairways and sand dunes. It has undergone continued investment and development, including the addition of new tees in 2021 and an extensive program of bunker re-engineering and dune reinstatement.

Visitors are welcome at Wallasey Golf Club. Green fees are available from £75 during the week and £95 on weekends.
