West Hill Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Surrey. The club was first formed in 1909.
The West Hill Golf Course was established in 1909 on land owned by the London Necropolis Company, initially acquired for the purposes of a vast cemetery. The course's inception was influenced by J. B. Walker, a senior executive of the company and a golf enthusiast, who facilitated the land's use for golf, leading to the founding of West Hill Golf Club.
Designers Jack White and Willie Park Junior, both Open Championship winners, were involved in the creation of the course, with Cuthbert Butchart overseeing its construction and contributing significantly to its design details. Though the course underwent some modifications after World War I, its layout has largely been preserved to the present day.
West Hill Golf Course is recognized for hosting prominent tournaments such as the Father and Son Open Tournament and the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship, which Anna Nordqvist won in 2005. The course has set records with a 63 amateur course score by Tom Richardson and a 62 professional record by Gary Brown in the Glenmuir Club Pro Championship.
As a classic heathland course, West Hill is characterized by dense heather and mature Scots pines, ensuring that strategic play is essential for navigating its challenges. Its thoughtful layout features the Brookwood brook on six of its holes, and a maintenance program has successfully established heather as a signature element of the course's difficulty.
