Willesley Park Golf Club

Located on the Willesley Estate, Willesley Park Golf Course was designed by acclaimed golf architect James Braid in 1920. The property, leased from Major Ashworth, was transformed into a golf course smaller than its current size. Its inaugural game was played in April 1921, and the course was subsequently expanded to nearly its present size in 1926. During the early days, the course featured distinct aspects, for example, the fifth tee was an 88-yard hole positioned to the right of the present fourth tee.

In the aftermath of World War II, the course, which had been mostly converted to agriculture, was reopened for play before eventually being purchased by the club from the Ashworth Estate. The clubhouse was built in 1957/58 to accommodate growing club membership. Notably, the course hosts a yearly competition, the Leicestershire Fox, which has witnessed wins from renowned golfers such as Mark James and Andy Sullivan. An iconic statue of Diana, Goddess of the Hunt, once stood on the 9th fairway but while the original deteriorated and was destroyed by 1981, a new statue was unveiled in 2000.
