Woodcote Park Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Greater London. The club was first formed in 1912.
Woodcote Park Golf Course was established on 31st May 1912 when an exhibition match between Harry Vardon and James Braid marked its opening. The landmark oak tree in front of the club house was planted to commemorate this event.
The original developer of the golf course was Woodcote Grove Estates Ltd, which had broader development plans for the area, though these were largely curtailed by wars, economic downturns, and Green Belt legislation. In 1950, the club's members purchased the freehold of the golf course, securing its future.
Since its establishment, Woodcote Park has undergone numerous changes both to the course itself and its associated buildings, yet maintains its Edwardian style in the main lounge and dining room. The layout of several holes of the course would be recognizable to early members due to these preserved features.
Throughout its history, Woodcote Park Golf Course has contributed to the development of high-caliber golfers, some of whom have achieved county, national, and international recognition. Notably, in the 2002-03 season, the club celebrated having the Surrey Mens Champion, the Surrey Ladies Champion, as well as both the Surrey and English Champion Clubs.
The golf course is characterized as part parkland and part downland, stretching 6,787 yards. The design presents a challenge with a number of long par fours and numerous bunkers that provide a test for golfers of various skill levels.
Topographically, Woodcote Park is set atop the Downs, where the wind significantly influences play, particularly on holes such as the 6th and 11th, that, despite being similar in length, offer vastly different experiences depending on wind conditions. The course's rating and slope figures indicate the level of challenge it offers to golfers of different handicaps.
