Woodsome Hall Golf Club

Woodsome Hall Golf Club was established following a meeting by a group of men on October 13th, 1921, at The George Hotel in Huddersfield. The lease for the grounds was secured from William the 6th Earl of Dartmouth, and construction of the golf course began soon after.

Initial rough work on the course was nearing completion by early February 1922, and thirteen holes were ready for play by Easter of the same year. The full eighteen holes were opened in May 1923, and the formal opening took place on June 23rd, 1923, with a match between the club's professional, William Button, and Arthur Day from Ganton.

The Woodsome Hall Golf Club, located near Huddersfield and within reach of major motorway networks, is a traditional course known for its challenging layout. It features a par of 70 and a standard scratch score of 71, emphasizing accuracy and strategy for golfers of all levels.

Notable features of the Woodsome Hall Golf Course include its 16th-century Grade 1 listed clubhouse, biomass boiler for energy sustainability, and a borehole for irrigation. The course has hosted many distinguished golfers and now has a membership base of 700.

The course is noted for its array of holes, each with their own challenges. Among these, the 'Cathedral' is described as the signature hole, offering a daunting drive through a funnel of trees, while the 'Spring' is recognised for having one of the trickiest greens.

Additional amenities at Woodsome Hall include an eight twin-bedroom Dormy house near the 7th green that provides accommodation for golfing breaks and social functions. The club has also expanded its services to host weddings and other events.
