Worfield Golf Club

Worfield Golf Club, established in 1991, was the brainchild of Trevor Williams and Derek Watson. The land for the course, acquired in 1989 from an auction for around £150,000, was originally 137 acres of farmland in Worfield. The course was designed by two of the club's directors, Trevor Williams and David Gough, with valuable assistance from Ray Baldwin, who was later honored as the club's first honorary member for his contributions.

Construction of the golf course commenced in September 1990, overcoming initial resistance from local authorities regarding clubhouse design and entrance location. The club's development included planting 18,000 trees to outline the fairways and installing bulrushes in the lakes. The inaugural medal competition was won by junior member Chris Burton with a net score of 60, indicating the course's initial condition with slow greens and placement on the fairways.

Through the 1990s, the course underwent continuous improvements, including the planting of additional trees and modifications to various tees and greens to enhance playability. The course layout, originally a point of personal contention, remained unchanged despite discussions. The club's evolution included the introduction of various competitions, the establishment of a ladies' committee, and social events contributing to the club's community spirit and financial stability.
