Wortley Golf Club

Golf at Wortley began on the land previously known as Lane Royd's Deer Park, with the establishment of a 9-hole course thanks to the Wortley family and friends. The course later expanded to 18 holes in 1908, designed by Alfred Ernest Turnell, and a clubhouse was constructed in 1911 following the game's increasing popularity among the area's wealthy families.

In the late 1920s, the 3rd Earl of Wharncliffe commissioned a redesign of the course by renowned golf course architect Harry Colt, leading to its recognition as a challenge suitable for all skill levels. Over the years, the course has retained its historic character, with traditions and sporting pursuits such as local game shooting forming part of its history.

The Wortley Golf Course is situated in a rural location near Wortley Hall, devoid of roads and urban skylines, delivering an experience away from it all. The undulating fairways framed by woodland and roaming game provide a distinct setting for golfers.

Notable for its historical ties, portraits of the first three Earl Presidents of Wortley Golf Club can still be found in the clubhouse. The club, which prides itself on tradition, is located on Hermit Hill Lane, Sheffield S35 7DF, and continues to offer a golfing experience enriched by its past.
