Wrexham Golf Club

Wrexham Golf Club was originally founded on March 14, 1906, after transitioning from Gwersyllt Park Golf Club and previously having roots in Gresford Golf Club. Over time, the club has had six different courses, starting from a nine-hole setup in Gresford in 1902 and evolving to the current eighteen-hole course established in 1950 at Borras after various relocations and developments.

Post World War II, a concerted effort in 1947 led by local MP Mr. Robert Richards and other stakeholders culminated in the October 21st, 1950 opening of the current course, following the rejection of a proposal for a new course at Gwersyllt Park. The design of the course involved careful planning to ensure that it featured a diversity of holes with distinct characteristics, facilitated by the topography and natural elements of the site as noted in a report by Carters Ltd.

The course has maintained a reputation for high standards and has hosted several prestigious events including the British Girls Championship in 1980 and the Ladies Home Internationals in 2008. Additionally, the Welsh Team Championship was notably won by both Wrexham's Gentlemen and Ladies teams in 1997 and 1998 respectively, marking a unique occurrence in Welsh golfing history.

Renowned players have emerged from Wrexham Golf Club, for instance, Karen Davies who was the youngest to play for the county at age 15, and Matthew Ellis who set a course record of 64 in 1995. Professional records have been noted as well, including Ken Bousfield's unique hole-in-one at the second hole in 1962 and Simon Edwards' record of 66 in 1993.
