Davyhulme Park is a parkland, 18 hole golf course in Lancashire. The course first opened on this site in 1911.
Davyhulme Park Golf Course was established as a 9-hole course situated on the east side of Davyhulme Hall prior to 1883, likely in the 1860s, making it one of the oldest courses in England. The course featured a lake on the 2nd and 6th holes, which is thought to have been constructed around 1690 by William de Hulme.
The land ownership changed over the years, with significant contributions from Robert Henry Norreys, who was instrumental in the golf course's early development and created a private golfing society. After several ownership transitions and the demolition of Davyhulme Hall in 1888, the Entwisle Golf Club was founded in 1893 and played on the existing course until it moved to Flixton in 1903.
In 1911, Davyhulme Park Golf Club Company Limited formed to take up the lease of the land, including the 9-hole course, with the option to expand to 18 holes. The golf course was purchased for £13,500 in 1923, and additional land was obtained from Humphrey de Trafford in 1931, leading to the design of new holes.
Professional golfer Ernest Smith designed and completed the current 16th, 17th, and 18th holes at a cost significantly lower than the original quotation, resulting in his honorary membership. Smith is also noted for a unique record of playing five rounds of golf in five countries within 24 hours.
