About: Delamere Forest

Delamere Forest is a heathland, 18 hole golf course in Cheshire. The course first opened on this site in 1910.

Delamere Forest Golf Club was established in 1910 on Crown land adjacent to the ancient forest. Herbert Fowler designed the 18-hole heathland course from an original layout by founder Willie Clegg. The clubhouse, by Alfred Powles, showcases traditional Cheshire black-and-white style.

On the Cookie Jar Golf Podcast (Ep. 151, Jul 2022), the hosts noted: "The courses are all great at the moment – they're fast, they're brown and they're playing brilliantly." They also highlighted the 15th: "15 is a shortish par four, doglegs left – you hit over the corner, over the crest of the fairway into a sort of blind" landing – a design echo of the famous 5th at Prestwick. James Braid, Sandy Herd, Ted Ray and James Arundel played the opening match; Braid won with 77. The club celebrated its centenary in 2010 and remains a quality heathland test.
