About: Keith

Keith is a parkland, 18 hole golf course in North East Scotland. The course first opened on this site in 1960.

The original Keith Golf Course was established to the East of Keith town and featured nine holes near the Drum Burn valley, with a clubhouse that oversaw the surroundings. The layout of the course, which provided limited expansion capabilities, was operational from the early 20th century, managed with horse-drawn mowers, and greens were attended by a greenkeeper.

During the 1920s, fairways were cut using horse-drawn mowers with horses wearing leather overboots to prevent hoof marks, and greens were maintained with hand mowers by the greenkeeper. The golf course presented a unique challenge with the 6th hole having no fairway, requiring a 110-yard shot across a field and the Drum Burn into a sloped green bordered by rough.

World War II resulted in the cessation of golf at the original course as it reverted to agricultural use, and the site was eventually deemed unsuitable for restoration. Post-war, local golfers sought alternatives until 1960, when efforts were initiated to find a suitable location for a new golf course for Keith.

Keith Town Council acquired land to the west of the town after the death of the Feudal Superior of Fife Keith, with the unauthorized addition of the "Lotted Land" by Col. Kynoch who also offered to finance the course's establishment. A golf course was subsequently designed with 13 holes by professional Roy Phimister and was brought into fruition by local volunteers and supporters.

Following the eventual expansion to 18 holes, today Keith Golf Course thrives as an 18-hole venue. The current course stands as a testament to the community's dedicated efforts to create a recreational space for the town of Keith.

Weekday green fees are £25 and weekend green fees are £30. A weekly green fee is available for £100.

Guests playing with a member can play for £15, while junior guests with a member can play for £5.
