About: Woburn (Marquess)

Woburn (Marquess) is a forest, 18 hole golf course in Buckinghamshire. The course first opened on this site in 2001.

The Marquess Course at Woburn, a union of design expertise from Peter Alliss, Clive Clark, European Golf Design, and Alex Hay, opened in 2000. It quickly gained acclaim as the 'Jewel in the Crown', named in honor of the then Marquess of Tavistock, and stands as a testament to the vision of the Duke of Bedford and the late Alex Hay, who oversaw the club's ascendancy to a premier golfing destination.

Spread over 200 acres straddling the Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire border, the course's diverse woodland and undulating terrain challenge golfers of all levels. Dominated by pine, spruce, chestnut, and oak, with rare species adding to its distinctiveness, the course's design is a celebration of natural beauty and golfing strategy.

Since its inception, the Marquess Course has been a crucible of golf history, hosting multiple British Masters and the prestigious Women's British Open. Its role in Final Qualifying for The Open between 2014 and 2017 further cements its reputation. The commitment of the Bedford family ensures the legacy of sportsmanship and excellence continues to flourish for future generations.

Strategic in its layout, the Marquess Course's scorecard presents a diverse challenge, from signature holes to undulating fairways. Golfers seeking to experience this renowned green can access the course easily via nearby stations, enjoying the seamless blend of historic design and modern golfing facilities.

Reviews often reflect the club's high standards, noting the course's meticulous upkeep and the architectural finesse that defines its 18 holes.
