George Duncan

George Duncan (1883–1964) was a Scottish professional and golf course architect. He won the 1920 Open at Royal Cinque Ports in one of golf's greatest comebacks—after trailing by 13 strokes at the turn, he shot 71–72 to win by two over Sandy Herd. Duncan was renowned for exceptional pace of play, hitting immediately without practice swings. He competed in three Ryder Cups (1927, 1929, 1931), serving as playing captain in 1929 when Great Britain won. Duncan designed or contributed to Hallowes, Wheatley, and advised on Royal Lytham and Porthcawl. He earned the nickname "the pro's pro" for his teaching.
