George Lowe

George Lowe (1856–1934) was a Scottish golf course architect, clubmaker, and professional from Carmyllie. He moved to Carnoustie aged eight, worked as professional at Royal Liverpool, Royal Lytham & St Annes, and St Annes Old Links, and was a founding member of St Annes Old Links in 1901. Lowe designed Royal Birkdale, Hesketh, Seascale, Pleasington, Morecambe, and Port Erin on the Isle of Man. He patented a matched set of irons in Britain (1896) and the USA (1899) and invented the "All Hitting Face" club. He produced over 25,000 clubs. After his wife's death in 1919, Lowe emigrated to Australia, settling in Queenscliff, Victoria.
