John Harris

Commander John Harris (1912–1977) was a British golf course architect from Chobham, Surrey. Educated at Pangbourne Nautical College, he gained civil engineering and surveying qualifications before joining his family's construction firm Franks Harris Brothers—Britain's first golf course construction company. His early role translated sketches from Harry Colt and J.F. Abercromby into working drawings for Moor Park and Wentworth's East and West courses. Harris designed globally; significant work includes Shannon, Courtown, Lahinch Castle Course (Ireland), and over a dozen Italian layouts including Biella, Venezia, and Menaggio & Cadenabbia.
