Langley Park Golf Club is a members' golf club, in Greater London. The club was first formed in 1910.
Langley Park Golf Club was established on May 28, 1910, as a privately owned club to serve the developing Park Langley Estate with an original subscription fee of 5 Guineas for full playing members and 2 Guineas for lady associates. The name of the club was changed from Parklangley Golf Club to Langley Park nine years after its inauguration, and the golf course was laid out on the historical Langley Park Estate.
The golf course's initial clubhouse was situated in The Langley Mansion, which experienced a fire in 1913, leading to the construction of a new clubhouse in a more accessible location; this new clubhouse overlooks the 18th green and lake. Golf course architect J H Taylor was commissioned to design the Langley Park golf course and emphasized its natural geographical adaptation providing an excellent test for golf.
In 1926, the club appointed Henry Cotton as a full professional, who recognized the club's significant encouragement in his professional success and later became an honorary member. Cotton's association with the club lasted until 1986, shortly before he passed away and received a posthumous knighthood.
Structural adjustments to the course were made several times throughout its history due to various factors including both World Wars, with the last significant changes to the course's configuration occurring at least 40 years ago. Currently, the course covers 120 acres, split by Red Lodge Road, and is composed of a total yardage of 6477 from the White tees, featuring a par of 70 with seven par 4's over 400 yards in length, and distinctive greens and undulating terrain.
The course has undergone numerous improvements, including extensive drainage and irrigation, the addition of new pathways, a new lake with a fountain on the 12th hole, and a comprehensive woodland management plan to enhance the quality of the greens and tees. The par 3 18th hole is notable for its lake spanning from tee to green, contributing to the course's challenging aspects.
