About: Bury St Edmunds (Championship)

Bury St Edmunds (Championship) is a parkland, 18 hole golf course in Suffolk. The course first opened on this site in 1969.

The golf course at Bury St Edmunds was established in 1924, and its original design was created by Ted Ray, the first British Ryder Cup team captain and winner of both an Open and a US Open. Initially, the course measured 6,087 yards, and as of the latest known measurement, it extends 6,676 yards off the white tees, ranking it as the second longest in Suffolk.

Significant alterations were made to the golf course during the 1960s due to the construction of the A14, leading to a comprehensive redesign by golf architect Frank Pennick; the new course configuration was inaugurated in May 1969. Additionally, in October 1991, a nine-hole course was introduced, which now serves as a successful pay-and-play facility appreciated by both novices and seasoned players.
